Scythe mowers are designed for cutting longer grass in paddocks, orchards or fields. The large front cutter bar and blade slices through thick growth in no time. The reciprocating 87cm blade cuts the grass at ground level where it can be left to wilt back naturally into the soil. The MTD BM87-35 is one of the lighter machines on the market weighing in at 53kg. The drive is still self-propelled though as you will need that extra power to propel you along any difficult terrain.
