Firstly, and possibly most importantly, lets discuss the engine. It is likely that your Mountfield lawnmower will be powered by a 4-stroke engine. This means that the oil and petrol are stored within the machine in separate sections, eradicating the need for you to mix the two together. Moving onto the oil specifically, you would need to make sure that the oil you are pouring in is SAE30 (10/30 Grade). This is to make sure the machine will run smoothly. Furthermore, it is important to note that its advised that the oil needs to be changed after approximately the first 5 hours of usage. Now this is down to the fact that the oil can degrade quite quickly (generally within a 30-day period) and so will become detrimental to the overall performance of the lawnmower itself. Swiftly moving onto the petrol, which most experts recommend you only put ‘fresh unleaded’ into the engine. This is because the longer it is left in the engine, the similar negative effects it will have like the oil in terms of damaging the fuel tank and the performance of the lawnmower. To minimise this, you should always add fuel stabilising additives every time you fill up the fuel tank.

Another couple of useful tips that you should know about are around the topic of the start-up of the lawnmower. It can be quite a tricky and hard to understand process if you don’t have an extensive knowledge and understanding of how to fire up one. So, if you ever find yourself having difficulties regarding this, please do bear in mind the following advice:

·Ensure you are holding the Operator Presence Control (OPC) bar. If you are not doing this, then you will be unable to pull out the recoil.

·If there is a throttle on your model, make sure it is turned on fully when you’re about to start the machine and then gradually reduce it once the machine has started running.

·If your model has a ‘primer’, make sure it is primed.

·Make sure that the fuel switch is turned on obviously.

Also, it is very useful for you to know that muddy and/or wet grass can cause the metal components of the lawnmower to rust and therefore, causing the engine to potentially overheat. So be sure to clean the cutting deck well and on a regular basis. However, this can be done in more than one way. If your machine doesn’t have an attachment for a hose, then you will have to tip the machine to clean it. Now it is paramount that you always tip it from front to back, so the machine can rest on its back wheels. You should never tip it from side to side as this will increase the likelihood of carburettor/spark plug contamination and therefore, hinder performance of the lawnmower.

There are also another couple of useful tips that can be of great help. It is recommended that you get your Mountfield lawnmower serviced annually. Forget the fact that if you want to extend the guarantee beyond the 1st year, then this is a must, it can more importantly cause blunt cutting blades and an out of tune engine, again shrinking the excellence of the final cut. Also, it’s good to note that the lawnmowers are not waterproof, so make sure when they’re not being used that they are stored in a dry place, covered.  I hope that this covers everything you need to know regarding your petrol Mountfield lawnmower and that you can enjoy the outcomes that it can produce.
