Be Serious About Safety

Whether you’ve used it a million times or it’s your first time, you need to be serious about safety. It’s important to wear protective gear such as ear plugs, safety glasses and a hardhat. We supply chainsaw clothing for those who want to be extra safe. Many injuries are on arms and hands, so wear a good pair of gloves and don’t wear clothing that is loose enough to get caught in moving parts. With a blade that can be moving as fast as 2500 feet per minute, you need to wear leather boots to put a barrier between you and the blade.

Assess Your Surroundings

Check out the area around where you’ll be working. You should clear away anything that could interfere with your movement such as rocks, sticks, debris – you also need to ensure that they don’t fly through the air or they could interfere with your vision. Get clear on where your tree or branches will fall so that you can work out how you’re going to exit from that area to keep you safe.

Be Extra Careful with Petrol or Corded Electric Chainsaw

You’ll need to be extra careful with these types of chainsaw. For example, don’t refuel close to where you’ll be working, in case there are any accidental spillages that could be ignited. If you run out of fuel, allow time for your machine to cool down before adding any more to it.

If you’re using a corded chainsaw, watch out for water and keep a close eye on the cord all the time.

Now you know what to watch out for, and you’re ready to use a chainsaw, why not have a look at the selection we have on the site?
