First off, you need to focus on what you need your lawn mower to do. You will then find it so much easier to sort through the hundreds of different mowers on the market.

Let’s look at what you need to consider to save yourself time, money and frustration.

The first factor that you need to consider is the size of your lawn. Those that are on the larger side may well be suited to a tractor mower. Smaller ones don’t need much more than a push mower. From small gardens to those that are up to 1/2 of an acre in size are suitable for push mowers that are self-propelled. You won’t need to expend so much energy, especially when you come up against either a hill or a rough patch.

Another important aspect to consider for your selection process is the size of the mowing area. This will determine how much grass the mower will cut. Those with a larger mowing area will enable you to get the job done faster with efficiency. However, don’t go for huge mowing areas with large engines or you’ll find that it costs you far more in fuel.

Something that might not be an obvious area to look into is that of wheel size. Although the standard sized wheel might be fine for gardens that are flat and on the smaller side, larger wheels can make some mowing far easier as they will travel over rougher terrain without any issues.

If you have more than ½ or ¾ of an acre, you may agree that a ride-on mower may make the best choice for your situation.
