66cm Cutting Width
With a cutting width of 66cm, this mower strikes the perfect balance of manoeuvrability and efficiency. The downside of very large cutting widths is that, whilst mowing large open areas is quick and efficient, navigating flowerbeds, trees and garden furniture can be tricky.
The 66cm cutting width allows the Mountfield 827H to get into smaller areas; through garden gates or around flowerbeds, yet it still works very efficiently across open stretches of lawn. With a turning circle measuring a mere 155cm, mowing around trees is easy!
This mower has been designed for gardens up to 3000m² or 0.75 acres. It offers all the usual conveniences of a ride on mower, with far greater manoeuvrability.
Power and Engine
Powered by a Stiga four stroke 224 cc petrol engine, the Mountfield 827H boasts enough power for large lawns. While the engine is smaller than other Mountfield models, the 3.6kW of power produced is ample for most domestic gardens. The large 3.8L fuel tank needs infrequent filling, while the electric start key ensures starting the mower is easy every time.
Although not as powerful as others on the market, the Mountfield 827H still has enough oomph to work across large areas of lawn with impressive efficiency.
Hydrostatic Transmission
Like most modern ride on mowers, the Mountfield 827H is equipped with hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulic pump powers a hydraulic motor, which in turn powers the wheels.
The benefit of hydrostatic transmission is that there’s no gearbox or clutch. You’ll have instant forward and reverse speeds, and just a single foot pedal. The more pressure you apply to the pedal, the faster the machine will go, with the maximum speed an impressive 6.2km/hr.
It’s easy to speed up across large areas of lawn, slowing down to negotiate trees and garden furniture. There’s no need to change gears – making this mower exceptionally easy to drive.
Cutting Adjustability
We’ve already mentioned the 66cm cutting width, and this mower also boasts a range of cutting heights. The height can be adjusted from 30mm up to 80mm, at 6 different positions.
Long, wet grass can be cut at one of the higher settings, whilst the 30mm height will have your lawn looking sleek and smart. It’s easy to adjust the cutting height before use.
Grass Collection Box
With a voluminous 150L collection basket at the rear, this mower can be used for long periods of time with none of the stop and start you’d have to put up with if you had a smaller collection box.
Once the collection box is full, it can be emptied from the comfort of your seat. You’re able to access the box without climbing off the mower – making mowing large gardens far more efficient.
If you’d prefer to mulch your lawn clippings, a mulching kit can be purchased separately.
Ease of Storage
While obviously bulkier than push lawn mowers, the Mountfield 827H Mower’s compact design ensures it’s relatively easy to store in garden sheds or garages. The dimensions are 105 x 73 x 183cm, so it can be driven through most garden gates and into tighter storage areas.
Comfort
If you’ve got a large garden, you’re going to be spending a lot of time in your new mower! This mower has an adjustable sprung seat that offers great visibility of the lawn in front of you. As the grass collection box can be emptied from the comfort of your seat, there’s no need to be constantly climbing on and off the mower.
