Make the Best Use of a Leaf Blower

It’s that time of year again when the garden can fill up quickly with fallen leaves; nothing that a high quality leaf blower cannot sort out quickly and efficiently. However, before pulling out your wallet and making your investment, here are a few factors that you should consider when choosing which one is best for you.

Handheld vs. Backpack

There are two different types of leaf lower: the handheld and the backpack models. Both are able to put in a great performance and can run on either a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke engine. The advantage of the backpack type is that they can be easier to manoeuvre due to being able to keep the hands free. However, the handheld unit can often deliver a dual function and operate as both a vacuum and a blower. Compared to the earlier models that were available in the 1990’s, they are much quieter.

Strategy

When it comes to operating to a strategy, the leaf blower is most effective when engaged to create a number of large piles of leaves. These piles are then transferred to a bag by hand. The blower is effective at blasting the bulk of leaves but wouldn’t normally be employed to blow every last leaf due it being a time consuming approach. The last of the leaves can be cleared away through the use of a rake.

The vacuum feature of the handheld blower is perfect for smaller jobs such as around the bottom of fences, those leaves trapped around bushes and rocks etc. that would benefit from another approach other than the blower. Leaves can also be cleared easily from the deck or patio area in this manner.

Timing

The weather should be considered with regards to timing. If a strong breeze is blowing, it’s going to make it difficult to collect the leaves into a pile. Ideally the wind won’t be blowing and therefore, the removal of leaves will be easier.

Wet or dry

Again, the best conditions for clearing leaves are when it’s been dry as they will not be stuck and will be easily transported on the wind from your blower.
