How to Get Your Children in the Garden

A recent survey revealed that twelve percent of British children have not been to a park, garden, forest or natural

environment for over a year. We think this is quite a shocking and worrying statistic and we would like to encourage more children to get out into the garden this year. Therefore in this post we have shared a few ways you could get your children into a garden this spring.

First things first, the National Trust hold events throughout the country that will entertain children of all ages. But, if getting to a National Trust garden is unfeasible you could start by getting your children into your own back garden, but before you let your children loose in the garden be sure to lock away any of your dangerous garden equipment or tools.

Numerous companies sell ranges of child friendly garden equipment which will allow them to plant their own seeds and grow a range of plants without hurting themselves. Cress and sunflowers are two of the more popular seed choices for children and can be planted very easily. You could even section off an area of the garden for your children to manage. They can use this area to grow and look after their own plants and flowers.

There are also a great range of garden toys available that will be sure to provide hours of entertainment to your little ones. Check out our range of garden games for more inspiration.

You could also get them involved in maintaining the garden. You may be surprised to learn that children love to weed and compost. But, do not trust any child with garden equipment that could cause a serious injury.

Our final idea is to prepare a garden treasure hunt. A perfect way to keep them entertained for a few hours on those warmer days!
