The difference between a garden hose and a pressure washer is that you can expect up to 20 times more water pressure on a surface than the regular garden hose can deliver.

If you are considering buying a pressure washer but you don’t know where to start, here’s what you need to consider:

Each machine comes with a different level of water pressure. For example, your garden hose may deliver 40lbs per square inch (psi) of water pressure. Those pressure washers that are categorised as ‘light’ will put out between 1300 and 2000 lbs psi and are suited to cleaning patio furniture, cars and awnings. There are pressure washers that throw out water at 2000 to 2600 psi. These are ideal for cleaning concrete, patios, walkways and removing stains, grease and oil from larger surfaces.

Pressure washers are available powered either by petrol or electricity. Which one you choose may depend on how large the area is that you want to clean and whether you have a long enough cable to operate your electrical pressure washer. With a gas powered machine you gain more freedom as you won’t be dependent on being able to reach the socket.
