What’s involved and who should do it?

Whether you can’t get enough of the smell of cut grass or you are somebody who loves to design, it might be that setting up a garden business could be your dream come true.

However, the success of a gardening business does not rely solely upon the notion of having green fingers. There are other matters to deal with and you’ll need a good head. First off, you’ll need to be fit to work long hours of labour, and the determination to win your own work. You’ll also need a range of gardening tools so that you can handle any job.

Being a professional gardener is not a fair weather only career, in addition to enjoying the rays of summer sunshine, you’ll have to pull out the tools for work during the colder winter months.

Ideally gardeners will like the outside life. They should also be fairly handy and be happy to take whatever jobs come their way. It might be that starting off working for private home owners is combined with performing commercial work for the local council and businesses.

Those who opt to work for more than private home owners will enjoy the most variation and have opportunity to grow and take on other clients. Depending where your interest lies, you may find that you can be creative and bring some design skills into the work with you.
