Garden Shredders

An essential piece of equipment used by many of our customers for bio-cultivation is the garden shredder. It’s important to recycle garden ‘waste’ material in order to give your garden the natural nutrients that it needs to thrive. Recycling your garden waste and shredding it not only prevents needless trips to the tip, but gives your garden all that it needs.

There are several different types of garden shredder available, and once you know a few facts then you’ll be well set to select the best one for your needs.

The best place to start is to understand which materials you need to shred. For example, if you have branches then the Ardisam CS6 Chipper/Shredder will handle the shredding of any branch up to 50mm in diameter. A more affordable model is the Handy Impact Garden Shredder which is available for under £100.

One of the secrets of good shredded material is to decrease the size of the material as much as you can. The DR 1150 Premier Shredder / Chipper is capable of producing ready to use mulch from large quantities and it comes complete with a large size hopper.

The slightly more costly DR 1650 Shredder / Chipper is equipped with a micro-fine shredding system that uses 5 blades to create material that is 20% less volume and can decompose 2 or 3 times as fast as the material that is produced from most other shredders. Usually these machines are equipped with just 2 blades. However, if you prefer you can set the blades to produce coarser and chunkier material.

Whichever shredder model you fancy, please note that you may need to take into account the noise that it will make. You may need to look for a quiet option which can still handle fairly large branches, and will produce small sized output of material.
