Get Ready for the ‘Year of the Snowstorm’

With autumn now coming to an end and the winter months approaching, you should now be thinking about how to make sure you’re best prepared to battle against what many forecasters are predicting the ‘coldest winter period since 2010/2011’.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

Erratic changes in jet streams coinciding with a sinking polar vortex, drag storms from the west and generally colder air, it is likely to bring multiple occurrences of heavy snow, ice sheets and freezing cold temperatures to the majority of the UK between December and the New Year, with some even predicting the heavy snow could come as early as the start of November and finish as late as mid-February.

There are many problems that can arise from heavy snowfall, whether that be of a low or high risk to you, such as covered driveways/paths to roads becoming impassable for vehicles and even personal injury.

We stock a variety of different snow related tools and equipment which can minimize the effect of these potential adverse outcomes. This includes:

Snow Blowers

Also known as a ‘snow thrower’, snow blowers can be powered by either electric or petrol. Petrol blowers are more convenient for larger areas as they are cordless, therefore limitless as to where you can use them. Also, they are easy to manoeuvre in comparison to electric models, despite the fact that electric blowers are smaller and more lightweight than petrol blowers.

We stock a number of different snow blowers available to purchase, including Stiga and Wolf Garten. Furthermore, we also have spare parts for sale just in case of any impairment to the blower. You can check out a demonstration of a Stiga Snow Blower by clicking the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lf0jURHHw3c

Snow Chains

These are metal chains which fit onto tyres of all shapes and sizes. They fit to most tyres at their everyday normal pressure, so there is no need to alter them to accommodate the chains. We stock a vast array of sizes and lengths that enable us to provide you with whatever you need. For example, the ‘Stiga Snow Chain 17” x 8”’ is suitable for the ‘Park Pro 16 4WD’, ‘Park Pro 21 4WD’ and ‘Park Pro 25 4WD’ lawnmowers and is currently available to buy from our website.

Snow Ploughs

Snow ploughs are another great device that we have available. They will enable you to clear snow that is ahead of you almost instantly. We have a number of different ploughs available, with one of our most popular ones being the ‘Handy Snow Plough’, although this is a hand operated item and it is convenient to store and use and is available on our website.

Snow Shovels

These are lightweight, yet strong and capable of moving large amounts of snowfall in your garden or on your driveway. The ‘Handy Snow Shovel’ that we currently have available is one we would highly recommend. It is more than capable of completing these tasks as it comes with an easy to grip handle and metal blades, so the chances of it disintegrating are minimal.

Following on from this, once you have cleared snow off your driveway or path, it is paramount that you put down salt to minimise the risk of injury. There are two types of salt available; grit and rock. Either is fine to use on most surfaces, but grit salt provides the best friction on most surfaces. We currently have pallets available of both types.

It is important to bear in mind that it will be hard work to manually distribute the salt yourself, so we would recommend that you also purchase a salt spreader to avoid this situation on either your lawn or driveway/paths. Currently, we have both towable and walk behind spreaders available on our website. Furthermore, additional information can be found within the salt spreaders category on the website.

Lastly, we also have the ‘Wolf Garten Ice Breaker’ available to buy on our website and can be of great help to drivers who need to clear their windscreens quickly, without any difficulty.

We hope that this information will help you get up-to-date with the latest forecast for the winter months and the subsequent hazards that will likely come as a result. Furthermore, we hope that this will help you decide on what machines and accessories you need in order to eliminate the potential damages that may occur as a result of the adverse weather conditions.
