Electric Lawnmowers: Should I Buy Mains or Battery Powered?

It’s high summer, your lawn is getting longer because you’re mower no longer work. It’s time to buy a new lawn mower and you fancy going along the electric route, but are unsure about whether to go with the cord or without.

You’re left with the question -which one will be better for the environment and better for you?

The fact that you’re going with electric rather than petrol is going to be a big step in the right direction when it comes to helping the environment. Those petrol guzzling machines of days gone by were well known for emitting both noise and toxin pollution.

The greener the lawn, the less green the products

Those with a passion for the perfect lawn may find themselves wanting to cut their lawns more than once a week, in particular if they are entering events such as Britain’s Best Lawn competition run by lawnmower manufacturers Briggs & Statton.

A side effect of having the greener lawn is that it will be less green. Take that either way that you read it, but the bottom line is that if you add chemicals to improve its shade of green, then you’ll be crossing the line into the potentially environmentally damaging arena.

Lawns add a lot when it comes to practical support for the environment. For example, they don’t do a whole lot for other species in nature, but they can stabilise soils and provide somewhere visually pleasant for us to enjoy looking at, walking on or sitting on.

Investing in either a corded or cordless electric lawn mower is a great step in the right direction towards being environmentally responsible. We think that either of the different electric powered lawn mower types offer excellent cutting, but our preference might be to sway slightly more towards the cordless now that the lithium battery has been so well developed.

Lithium batteries are now recognised as being 30% more efficient than they used to be and compared to older style gel battery equipped cordless mowers, weigh 40% less. With regular use you can expect to enjoy 10 years of battery life from them.

Whichever electric lawn mower you opt for – the corded electric lawn mower or the cordless lawn mower, we are happy to advise you. Call us on 01452 616 169 for a no obligation chat.
