Choosing which lawnmower is right for your garden can be a timely process. In this blog we list of the most common premium lawnmower features and how they can make your mowing experience quicker and easier.

Electric Start

Push button starting is not only time saving, but gives you the confidence that the mower will be ready to go whenever you are. Some mowers come with both electric button and recoil start for extra reliability.

Self-propelled Drive/Automatic Drive

Self-propelled drive takes the effort out of pushing and manoeuvring your lawnmower across the grass. It’s engaged by squeezing a bail arm and the mower moves forward without you needing to push. This motion matches your walking speed and allowing you to move and steer the mower with minimal user input.

Variable Speed Gearbox

A variable speed gearbox allows you to adjust the mowers speed to suit your working speed and the grass conditions. This is a great benefit when mowing uneven ground, slopes or over long or wet grass.

Traction Control

This feature complements self-propelled drive. It supplies extra power to the rear wheels when one wheel starts to slip or loose traction on wet grass.

Blade Brake Clutch

The blade brake clutch stops the blades from turning without needing to cut out the engine. This is a time saving feature which allows you to keep the engine running whilst you empty the grass collector or move the mower across paths or gravel.

Combined Mowing Functions

You may notice lawnmowers stating 4 in 1 or 3 in 1 mowing functions. These extra function give you more options for your grass cuttings than the standard collection box.
Collect functions are self-explanatory, the cut grass is collected into the supplied grass bag or box.
When the grass collector is removed the grass cuttings can be ejected from the rear of the mower, this is the rear discharge option.

Side discharge ejects the cut grass via a chute positioned on the side of the lawn mower, the cuttings are deposited in neat rows alongside the mower.
Mulching reduces the collected grass cuttings into tiny pieces. This is actioned by adding a mulch plug to the mower. The grass cuttings are cut and recut until they are a fine consistency and then blown back onto the lawn. This nutrient-rich mulch provides food and moisture for the grass roots and is proven to help promote a healthier, thicker lawn.

Vertical Storage

A lawnmower can take up room in the shed or garage, especially one with a larger cutting width. Vertical storage solutions like Toro’s Smartstow or Briggs and Stratton’s Mow N’Stow storage systems allow the mower to be stored in an upright position significantly reducing the mowers footprint.
