- 1. Take a good look at the hedge you will be cutting before you start. Check for any cables, metal wires, debris or birds nesting inside. Check the size and accessibility of the hedge so you can organise the necessary apparatus needed beforehand.
- 2. Wear the appropriate safety gear and make sure your machine is clean, sharp and ready to go.
- 3. When wanting a formal line push stakes at either end of the hedge and run a tout line of string as a guide.
- 4. For angled and symmetrical shapes, templates made from plywood are reusable and easier to follow, cardboard could also be used.
- 5. Trim where you stand before moving on and make slow and controlled movements, working from the bottom of the hedge up.
