Read on to discover our top 5 tips for buying a ride on lawnmower:

  • Put your yard first. Your ride on lawnmower needs to be agile enough to be able to scoot around any obstacles such as trees and playsets. You may have hills, ponds or other points of interest to take into account. Mowers come with rear-drive, front-drive and zero-turn handling.
  • Speed. Some people just want to go fast. If you have a lot of obstacles, then you may not be able to go the speed that you had in mind. But if you have space and a clear path then you may want to ‘put your foot down’ to get the job done. Look for a system that is multi-speed to have options.
  • The engine is it! The engine power may be what attracts you to a particular model, but those with cooling systems and oil filters will help your engine to live longer.
  • Width. Ride on mowers are available in a range of different widths. The mowing decks are suited as follows:
    • 30-40 inch = 1.5 acres and below
    • 40-48 inch = 1.5 acres to 3 acres
    • 48-61 inch = 3 acres and beyond
  • Maintenance. Keep your engine tuned up and the right parts greased and you’ll have no need to spend out on another ride on mower anytime soon.
